Administration of Technology Initiatives: Planning, Budgeting, and Evaluation

An overview of the administration of technology in K–12 school systems. The impact of technology in schools is explored from a variety of perspectives, including access, planning, budgeting, maintenance and life-cycle management at the classroom, school, and district levels. Criteria for making financial and instructional decisions about technology are developed and evaluated. Emphasis is on knowledge and skills teachers can use to acquire classroom technology, including grant writing and public-/private-sector partnerships. (c) UMUC 2010

This course implemented planning and budgeting skills more than use of actual technology tools.

  • Project 1 - Locate and analyze an actual Acceptable Use Policy and create a written report
  • Project 2 - Develop a Classroom Technology Plan
  • Project 3 - Research, locate and apply for an educational technology grant
  • Project 4 - Final project involved creating a school technology plan with team members. This final project was in a written, deliverable form in the link above, yet we chose to create a wikispace for organization and development of the project, as well as a website including actual self-created instructional modules.
